Hello from Dosbarth Fern

The Grown-ups
We are very lucky in Dosbarth Fern! We have so many grown-ups to help us.
Our class teachers are Mrs Holloway and Mrs O’Shea.
The teaching assistant in class is Mrs Woods.
Playtime
We have amazing school grounds and we take turns to play on the playground, apparatus and field. We wear our wellies every day as we like to keep our school nice and clean.
Please ensure a coat is bought in everyday as the weather can be very changeable.
PE
This year our PE sessions are on Wednesday.
We come to school wearing our PE kits. We wear leggings or joggers, a t-shirt, a warm jumper and trainers as we like to do PE outdoors when the weather is fine.
Forest School
This year our Forest School sessions are on Monday
We are given waterproof trousers to wear, but we need to bring our own warm waterproof coat. When the weather turns colder we also need to bring our gloves, hat and scarf. We find it much more comfortable to wear trousers or leggings to school on our Forest School day.
Swimming
This year our swimming day is a Thursday for Year 1 children. Reception children will start lessons later in the year.
We bring our swimming kit to school in a rucksack that we can carry on our back. We need to be able to dress and undress ourselves at the pool, and so we practice at home to make sure we are quick changers! We find it easier to wear clothes that are easy to take on and off (like joggers). We put our names on all our clothes too, to make sure that we wear our own clothes home again.
Reading
We love reading! We bring our bookbags to school EVERY day and we try to practice our reading every night. We also have ‘rocket words’ that help us learn our High Frequency words and ‘sound stars’ that help us to learn our phonic sounds. We try our best to practice these at home too!
Please try to read with your child as often as you and write a comment in their reading record to let us now they have read at home.
Packed lunch
We always write our name on the outside of our packed lunch bag and our drinks bottle. This makes it much easier for us to find, especially when our friends have the same ones.
Snack time
We are always given the choice of milk or water at snack time. We bring our own fruit or vegetable snack every day too. Some of us find it difficult to eat a whole piece and so we bring our snack already cut up in a pot.
Drinks bottles
We like to bring a water bottle to school too as sometimes we get thirsty. The grown-ups tell us that we are only allowed to have WATER in our bottles though, as this is really healthy.
Clothing and Shoes
In Dosbarth Fern, we encourage the children to be an independent as possible. As the children change into wellies at least twice a day, velcro shoes are best for promoting independence.
Please do label all your child’s clothes as this helps us to return missing items to the correct child.
